so the sad little press sat in our basement for a couple months, and then recently m brought it upstairs where it's been sitting quietly and untouched, underneath the food processor. curiosity & hunger finally got the better of me and i decided to bust it out.
what ensued was a total treat of a toasty warm sandwich oozing with hummus, crisp empire apple slices, local micro greens and a bit of daiya. it was awesome and totally worth the trouble of cleaning up the press post panini fest.
moral of the story? it was a pretty good little thrift after all.
now if only i could figure out a way to make waffles in it....
Looks like a cafe panini!
ReplyDeletenothin' like your own kitchen cafe ;)
DeleteYou might want to try adding apple butter. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteyes terri! a la laughing buddha? i actually dug around the back of the fridge because i was sure i had some but came up empty handed.
DeleteEvery now and then I use the panini press at my boyfriend's house. I mostly use it to make peanut butter banana sandwiches with a little drizzle of agave. SO GOOD.
ReplyDeleteoh my goodness shannon that sounds so amazing!
Deletewow jess, that looks delicious! i love a good crunch in a sandwich! and this one looks particularly appetizing! thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeletethanks sweet caitlin :)
DeleteWell, the panini has certainly earned its keeping in terms of making a beautiful sandwich! With that light green salad and crisp apple, it looks like the perfect lunch! Maybe he'll find a thrifted waffle maker next. There are a lot of them out there!
ReplyDeletehah, yes, totally earned its keeping! i'll be keeping my eye out for that waffle maker though...
DeleteI really wish I liked apples, this looks so good, I just can't get into them (unless they are baked). Love the idea of the panini press those - can't wait to see what you come up with next!

DeleteDude, I feel like I am looking at Panera menu...and drooling! Not only do your pics look fabulous but so does that sandwich! I just ate dinner but now I want one of THOSE. Please... :)
ReplyDeletedude, i have no idea what panera is, but i think that was a complement so thank you miss cara! i'll turn on the press if you're coming over...
DeleteOooo a panini press, yummy!!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious! Must try this ASAP
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog, but am already drooling over all of the deliciousness. Panini is like a magical word in my mind, any time I hear it I have an instant craving (but that also might be the pregnancy talking...). :)
ReplyDeleteI laughed really hard just now, because the same thing happened to me with a thrifted panini press. They are startlingly similar in appearance to waffle irons. I used mine as a waffle iron for two years before someone clued me in.
