it was wonderful to see some familiar faces of friends (like dani!), meet a new wee little vegan (congrats again mel & reuben!) and we even tried to catch a cooking demo. i say "tried" because well, little mister woodrow was feeling pretty vocal and so we didn't stick around for fear of disrupting the audience. too bad because i was really enjoying allyson's demo, and being a long time fan of her blog manifest vegan i was really hoping to get a chance to say hello afterwards! but, instead we practiced some walking skills.
this year was the first that mark came with me and he went to town with the bakeries. bakeries have always been his soft spot and when we travel he loves checking them out, so for him to be at the festival with not one or two, but FIVE vegan bakeries set up he was in heaven. and we came home with boxes of goodies that we promptly polished off without batting an eye. it seems mark went a little overboard on buying tarts so we spent some serious time trying them all a few times - - just to be sure of our favourites. (i know, it was some pretty tough work!)
oh and the results are in: mark's favourite butter tart was from bloomer's - mine was from bunner's. but the berry tarts from tori's were just out of this world.
there were other great programing events that we missed, like hearing the amazing gene baur speak or seeing this world record being broken by a heavy-lifting vegan (!!!), but as always i enjoyed the bits that i did manage to fit in and i'm already looking forward to next year's trip for what will be the 30th anniversary of the festival. i can't wait to see what they'll have in store for us.
ps. i keep meaning to tell you that i'm now on instagram too! you can find me here.
